Questions
What does “prices include GST” actually change?
Marketplace prices in India are what the customer pays, GST included. With the switch on, the amount you type is that full price and we strip the GST out to find your taxable value. With it off, you are working in pre-GST figures and we gross the price up before applying Amazon's fees — because Amazon charges its commission on the full amount the customer paid.
Either way the fees are identical. Only which number you type and read changes.
How does the GST input credit work?
Two GST flows run in opposite directions. Amazon charges you 18% on its own fees — you paid that, so you reclaim it as input credit. Your customer paid GST on the product — you collected that and owe it as output. Only the difference is deposited.
Once the credit is netted off, the GST on Amazon's fees cancels out entirely and what you keep is your taxable value less the pre-GST fees. If your product is rated below 18%, you can end up with more credit than liability.
Why is the selling price so much higher than what I want to receive?
Amazon charges four fees on every sale — referral commission, closing fee, weight handling and pick & pack — then adds 18% GST on all four. Returns cost a fifth fee plus the weight, closing and pick & pack fees a second time.
Raising your price also raises the referral commission, since it is a percentage. That feedback is why you cannot simply add the fees to your target.
Why does my net sometimes fall when I raise the price?
Most fee nodes charge no referral commission at all below a threshold — usually ₹1,000 — then jump to their full rate the moment you cross it. On a 19% node, pricing at ₹1,000.01 instead of ₹1,000 hands Amazon about ₹225 more.
The price curve shows these steps. When one sits between you and your target, the calculator returns the cheapest price that genuinely clears it and says so.
Which weight am I charged on?
The higher of your actual weight and the volumetric weight, which is length × breadth × height ÷ 5, measured in centimetres and read as grams. A large, light package is billed on its size — so shrinking the box, not the contents, is what lowers the fee.
Where do these numbers come from?
Every fee, slab and threshold is taken from the FY2026 Amazon India seller fee workbook — 231 fee nodes with their referral slabs, the FC closing-fee groups, the weight handling rate cards for all six methods, and the refund commission tables. The engine is asserted against that workbook automatically.
Product GST rates are the exception. The workbook contains no product tax rates, so the defaults here are the ordinary statutory slabs mapped onto Amazon's categories. Check your HSN code and override the rate in step 1 if it differs.
